Summer Without You

Summer feels too quiet without you,

my name too bare

when it is not your lips saying it.

Summer feels too empty without you.

Every time I pass by your street,

I like to think you are there,

somewhere in peace.

Summer feels too hot without you.

Its heat gives me no warmth—

not the way

the palm of your hand once did.

Summer feels too much like broken glass.

Its shards remain in my heart,

lodged where they should not be,

displaced,

but never gone.
