THE LEGEND OF THE BUTTERFLY
There was once a sickly child named Butter who lived in a bungalow near the forest. Her mother liked dressing her up to put life on her pale face and frail body. Despite the storm destroying the inside of the child, it was sunshine outside of it. With her mother's smile, while carrying her as if she was flying and the fresh air kissing her face, there was peace.
One
morning, the mother asked, "Butter, don't you want to go out and play with
friends?” The child replied, "But you are my friend!" The mother only
smiled. The child thought to herself that she didn't need one, but her mother
does. Because she'll be all alone when she's gone. Even at a young age, she
understood things normal children usually don't. And at that moment, she could
hear Death knocking at her door.
That
night, Death opened the door and saw Butter hugging her mother. Butter opened
her eyes to see a figure she once saw in a book and quickly understood that it
was him. Butter sat up and said, "I have a favor. When I go with you, give
my mother some friends as beautiful as me so she may not be lonely as time goes
by. I do not wish for her to forget me, but rather, be inspired to live
beautifully like she once used to before running to the countryside for my
health." Death nodded as Butter kissed her mother's forehead before she
walked towards him, holding his hand.
Butter's mother grieved for days as she buried her. Flowers as beautiful
as Butter bloomed around her tombstone. As she cried in her room, an insect
with colorful wings which she had never seen before peeked at her window. She
was instantly reminded of Butter who she carried in the wind as if the child
was flying. Days passed by and more of the flying insects came to visit her and
the child's tombstone. Thus, the mother named the insect "Butterfly"
for they are free and beautiful - just like her daughter. And with that, she
began to feel better and started to live life beautifully once again.
